Time needed: 45 minutes
Here are the steps on how to clean marcasite jewellery:
- Gather your supplies. You will need:
A soft toothbrush
A bowl of lukewarm water
A few drops of mild dish soap
A soft cloth
A silver cloth (optional) - Prepare your workspace.
Cover a clear, flat surface with a clean towel to catch any water or polish that might spill.
- Gently clean the jewellery with the toothbrush.
Dip the toothbrush in the soapy water and scrub the jewelry gently, being careful not to dislodge any of the marcasite stones. Pay attention to the back of the jewellery, where dirt and grime can build up.
- Rinse the jewellery with clean water.
Rinse the jewellery thoroughly under cold water to remove all of the soap.
- Dry the jewellery with a soft cloth.
Dry the jewellery completely with a soft cloth, making sure to get into all of the nooks and crannies.
- Polish the jewellery with a silver cloth (optional).
If you have a silver cloth, you can use it to polish the jewellery and give it a shine.
- Store the jewellery in a jewelry box or bag.
Store the jewellery in a dry, dark place to prevent it from tarnishing.
- Here are some additional tips for cleaning marcasite jewellery:
Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the marcasite stones.
Do not soak the jewellery in water, as this can also damage the stones.
If the jewellery is heavily tarnished, you can try soaking it in a solution of 1 part white vinegar to 10 parts water for 30 minutes. Then, rinse the jewelry with clean water and dry it as usual.
If the jewellery has any pearls or other gemstones, be sure to clean them separately, as the cleaning methods for these stones may be different.
